Go Green Facts

What is “Go Green” from MSN Encarta

politics advocating protection of environment: supporting or promoting the protection of the environment

business made with little environmental harm: produced in an environmentally and ecologically friendly way, e.g. by using renewable resources
Go Green: to become actively interested in environmental issues and support environmental causes

How?  Three R’… Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
It sounds simple but it really works. Get in the habit of incorporating the “three R’s” into products you use on a daily basis. This process can have an effect on what you choose to buy. It also affects how you use and dispose of things you already have.

Tupperware is a perfect fit!  Reduce the amount of products you purchase and save!  Reuse our containers over and over!  And recycle when necessary!

Bottled water comes in three basic forms. Natural mineral water…Spring and Purified water—essentially the same as tap water—can be drawn from almost any source (surface or underground) and is treated to make it potable.

Carry your own coffee mug and skip the disposable cups and lids. If you drink five lattes a week, you'll save more than 16 pounds of trash over the course of a year.

Tupperware’s Commuter Mug

Buy recycled paper towels instead of virgin rolls. If every household in the country did this just once, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council, we'd save 544,000 trees.

SUSTAINABILITY

In every decision, we must consider the impact of that decision on the next seven generations.
— Ancient proverb

Always looking to the future, Tupperware embraces environmental sustainability as a way to meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. Our commitment to sustainability is apparent throughout our product lines and our corporate culture. Here are just a few ways we contribute to energy efficiency, waste reduction and greenhouse gas reduction to help ensure the environment’s sustainability:

OUR PRODUCTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT
Built to last a lifetime, our products eliminate the need for disposable containers that end up in landfills. We also provide storage and cooking solutions to keep food fresh longer and increase energy efficiency.

Tupperware Alternative Products for On-the-Go
Tupperware® on-the-go drinking and lunch solutions are a wonderful alternative to disposal containers because they are high quality, durable, and reusable, eliminating years of potential waste from our landfills. Disposal products have a negative impact on the environment because of the perpetual need for production and transportation of the products, and the fact that they end up in landfills.

Tupperware Durable Products for Storage
According to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, aluminum foil and closures accounted for 400,000 tons of our nation’s municipal solid waste stream last year alone. Only 10% of that was recovered or recycled! That’s in addition to the 2 million tons of plastic wrap and over 1.5 tons of plastic bags that are disposed of in landfills each year. Our durable, versatile storage products last virtually forever and offer a sustainable, reusable option for preserving food and the planet. These products give consumers the power to immediately reduce economic and environmental waste.

Tupperware® Products Save Energy, Time and the Environment
Our non-electrical products, such as the Quick Chef, and our microwave lines help save time and energy. For instance, microwaving helps conserve around 50% more energy during cooking and reheating than a traditional oven.

Tupperware Fresh Solutions
Buying groceries in bulk saves money, time, gas, and reduces packaging waste. The challenge lies in keeping this food fresh so that it is consumed rather than thrown away. When food ends up in landfills, it becomes a large contributor to greenhouse gas emissions. Tupperware FridgeSmart® Containers are a top choice for fresh food storage, reducing waste and saving money.

OTHER INITIATIVES
Tupperware Corporate Office Environmental Program

To save space and reduce waste, we replaced all cardboard boxes with rented durable crates and instituted the use of recycling bin. Disposable products, such as styrofoam cups, plates and utensils, were removed from the campus.

Sustainable Printing
In 2008, Tupperware North America began using paper that supports well-managed forestry and ink that contains nearly one-third renewable resources.

Sustainability In Our Manufacturing Plants
From seeking alternative chemicals and manufacturing techniques to installing energy-efficient lighting and wastewater treatment systems, Tupperware is working diligently to reduce its global impact on the environment.
